Our world remains torn by troubles and conflicts

September 11, Afghanistan, Israel and the Palestinians, Iraq, Liberia. The list of conflicts over the last few years shows that we still have not learned to live together harmoniously. There continues to be the idea that injustice can be resolved through use of force. This is helped, no doubt, by the manufacturers of weapons looking to sell their products wherever they can.

NOW is the time to work for peace. Fighting has solved few if any of the problems in the world. If we think that the past two world wars were a fight against excessive nationalism or racial intolerance, then just consider that we still have these evils in the world today.

Material posessions

The world seems to be much more aligned to a thinking that possession of material goods will solve all the problems, and by supplying thes to the needy will make the world a better place, but all the world's religions say that man has a spiritual nature. Denying the spiritual side of mankind is really the basic cause of all the problems we can see around us. By promoting just the material side, we are giving rise to feelings of despair and hopelessness when people do not have many possessions.

Just because there is nothing in the news about any natural disaster, it does not mean that the humanitarian activities of the Red Cross, Oxfam and other agencies is no longer needed. Please continue to support their work around the world.

There are also questions on gun control, racial and religious intolerance and extremist nationalism. Your thoughts are welcome. Email the webmaster with your comments
